Unlock the Power of Your Diesel Engine with the ScanGauge D

For owners of diesel pusher RVs, long-haul trucks, or any heavy-duty vehicle running SAE J1939 or SAE J1708 protocols, having the right tools for real-time diagnostics and performance monitoring is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. That’s where the ScanGauge D comes in. Compact, rugged, and incredibly easy to install, this device delivers insights that were once only available to dealership service departments or through expensive diagnostic equipment.

The ScanGauge D plugs directly into your vehicle’s round diagnostic port—either the 9-pin J1939 or the 6-pin J1708—and starts working immediately, with no need for adapters, batteries, or special tools. It’s designed to be truly plug-and-play, offering a level of simplicity that belies the depth of functionality it brings to your dashboard.

Key Features

  • Dual‑protocol compatibility: Works with both 9‑pin J1939 and 6‑pin J1708 ports—no need for adapters .

  • 15+ built‑in digital gauges: Monitor coolant, manifold, oil, and transmission temperature, RPM, speed, oil pressure, voltages, fuel economy, cost per mile, and more.

  • Custom X‑Gauges: Define and display vehicle‑specific parameters like exhaust gas temperature (EGT), transmission oil temp, or engine oil temp.

  • Performance monitor & trip computers: Track acceleration, braking, 0–60 mph, quarter‑mile times, and store multiple trip logs.

  • Code reader & clearer: View and erase trouble codes for self‑diagnostics and “check engine” light reset.

  • Easy install: Just plug into the diagnostic port; no batteries or tools needed

What sets the ScanGauge D apart is its ability to display and log real-time data across a wide range of vital vehicle metrics. Whether you’re interested in fuel economy, coolant and transmission temperatures, oil pressure, or RPMs, this device puts the information front and center. It supports more than 15 standard digital gauges and, for those wanting more, it allows for custom “X-Gauges” to be programmed—such as Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), which is crucial for monitoring engine performance under load.

In addition to monitoring, the ScanGauge D can also read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), making it a valuable tool for troubleshooting on the road. If your “Check Engine” light comes on, you won’t be left guessing or relying solely on a mechanic’s schedule. Instead, you can access detailed code descriptions and determine whether you’re facing an urgent issue or something that can wait until your next stop.

Drivers frequently praise the device for its clarity and usefulness. On user forums and in product reviews, owners report using it to monitor everything from oil pressure to instantaneous fuel economy. In the words of one diesel motorhome owner, “Now I can see what’s really going on behind the dash—no more guessing or hoping everything’s fine. This unit paid for itself within the first few trips.”

Another key benefit is the ScanGauge D’s trip and performance logging. The unit keeps records of trip durations, fuel usage, cost-per-mile data, and more—helping you identify patterns, make informed decisions about fuel efficiency, and even justify maintenance expenditures with hard data.

Of course, it’s not without minor drawbacks. The LCD screen is functional but basic—small and without a touch interface. And while most users find the setup intuitive, configuring custom X-Gauges can require a bit of research, especially if you’re targeting non-standard engine parameters. Still, the ScanGauge D is one of the few aftermarket devices that caters directly to the heavy-duty diesel market without requiring a laptop or subscription-based software.

Who Should Get This?

  • Diesel RV owners (e.g., Cummins‑powered motorhomes): superb for engine and transmission monitoring.

  • Truckers and heavy‑haul fleets: real‑time diagnostics in a lightweight package.

  • DIY mechanics: code reader functionality and live data for troubleshooting.

  • Drivers tracking performance or economy: logs help improve fuel efficiency over time.

In the end, the ScanGauge D is a smart, durable, and highly effective tool for any diesel driver who values control, transparency, and peace of mind. Whether you’re crossing the country in a diesel RV or hauling freight over mountains, this tiny monitor gives you a clearer picture of your engine’s health and performance—one that can save money, reduce downtime, and help you catch problems before they become costly failures.

If you’ve ever felt in the dark about what’s happening under your hood, the ScanGauge D is the light you’ve been waiting for. More information…

SAE J1939 Starter Kit and Network Simulator

Our JCOM.J1939 Starter Kit and Network Simulator is designed to allow the experienced engineer and the beginner to experiment with SAE J1939 data communication without the need to connect to a real-world J1939 network, i.e., a diesel engine. It may sound obvious, but you need at least two nodes to establish a network. That fact applies especially to CAN/J1939, where the CAN controller shuts down after transmitting data without receiving a response. Therefore, our jCOM.J1939 Starter Kit and Network Simulator consists of two J1939 nodes, namely our jCOM.J1939.USB, an SAE J1939 ECU Simulator Board with USB Port.

The jCOM.J1939.USB gateway board is a high-performance, low-latency vehicle network adapter for SAE J1939 applications. The board supports the full SAE J1939 protocol according to J1939/81 Network Management (Address Claiming) and J1939/21 Transport Protocol (TP).
