  • Please be aware that you can only transmit messages when you have chosen ECU Simulation Mode in the ECU Setup tab and you have claimed an ECU address (see paragraph ECU Setup above). Otherwise, the software will indicate that there is no node ID available. You can design messages by entering the PGN, Destination Address (255…

  • If your intention is the mere monitoring of SAE J1939 data traffic, you don’t need to set up the ECU, but if you want to transmit SAE J1939 data (PGNs), you need to claim a node address. This section is where you configure an SAE J1939 ECU through parameters such…

  • The Bit Data section was designed with the modification of digital signals in mind. It functions very similar to the Byte Data section, however, limited to one byte. Also, instead of a slider, the program uses check boxes to set or reset digital information. → Download/View the JCOM1939 Monitor User Manual (PDF)… A Comprehensible…

  • The Recorder function allows the user to store received (filtered) PGNs into an MS-Excel-compatible csv file. The control buttons are self-explanatory, since they resemble those of any standard recording device. Click Record to start the recording process, and the program will display the number of current records as shown above. After clicking the Stop button,…

Required Hardware

The JCOM1939 Monitor Software for Windows works in combination with the following SAE J1939 gateways:

SAE J1939 Starter Kit and Network Simulator
The starter kit allows you to monitor, simulate, and record any PGN as defined in the SAE J1939-71 Standard, including diagnostic messages according to SAE J1939-73. Many users ask us whether or not we can process specific parameters such as fuel consumption, vehicle speed, vehicle position, etc., and the answer is always yes. However, you need to understand that the starter kit was not designed for specific engine parameters, i.e., you need to know which PGN represents the desired data. Also, the starter kit was not designed to simulate particular diesel engines, but if you enter all PGNs that are being used, you can create and simulate any diesel engine. More Information…

SAE J1939 ECU Simulator Board With USB PortSAE J1939 ECU Simulator Board with USB Port
The gateway board is a high-performance, low-latency vehicle network adapter for SAE J1939 applications. It allows any host device with a USB COM port to monitor SAE J1939 data traffic and communicate with the SAE J1939 vehicle network.

The board supports the full SAE J1939 protocol according to J1939/81 Network Management (Address Claiming) and J1939/21 Transport Protocol (TP). It is also supported by an extensive programming interface for Windows and Linux/Ubuntu applications, including complete C/C++/C# source code for short time-to-market developments.

The board’s strength lies in the fact that the entire SAE J1939 protocol, including all timing requirements, is stored on-chip, thus taking the burden off the primary system. The board uses a USB COM port to communicate with the primary system, i.e., all data transfer is handled through a standard COM port access. More Information…

Development & Prototyping for Classic CAN, CAN FD, SAE J1939, NMEA 2000

Copperhill Technologies, a Massachusetts corporation, was established as an electronics engineering and consulting business with the main focus on the development, prototyping, and sales of embedded systems for Controller Area Network (Classic CAN, CAN FD), SAE J1939, and NMEA 2000, which includes popular systems such as the Arduino and Raspberry Pi but also our embedded solutions based on the ESP32 microcontroller.

The skills of our hardware and software engineering team include rapid prototyping; we can deliver prototype solutions within the shortest time and assist with the manufacturing process of the final product. We provide not only schematics, bill of material, placement files, Eagle/Gerber files but also the application source code including documentation.
