The USB driver software for the JCOM1939 USB gateway and the Starter Kit is compatible with several operating systems. Previously, Windows 10 installed the USB driver automatically, but due to an update, it no longer does so. As a result, you will need to manually install the driver software regardless of the Windows version you are using.
There are drivers available for Linux or Android projects. However, for the sake of simplicity, this guide will focus on Windows installation.
Please download the driver for your operating system as indicated below:
- USB Driver Installation for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux…
Click on the Downloads tab to see a list of available downloads. - Android (Application Note – PDF)…
Note:
- USB Hub: Do not connect the gateway or starter kit to a laptop using a USB hub. Using USB hubs on laptops can cause communication problems.
- Parallels Desktop: The USB driver software works only with the “original” PC hardware, meaning you cannot run the gateway using the Parallels Desktop virtualization on a Mac computer.

For the Windows operating system, download the “CP210x Universal Windows Driver” and store it somewhere on your computer (the Download folder comes to mind).
Right-click on the CP210x_Universal_Windows_Driver file and select “Extract All…”
Open the “Device Manager,” expand the relevant category (COM Ports), and select the USB port that points to the CP210x device.

Right-click and select Update Driver.

Follow the instructions on the screen, and you should be all set.
